Wow! I’ve read the bill a couple of times and I didn’t realise the law is so restrictive! I’ll bet if the law were already in force, antigay Pastor Martin Ssemba could be tried and convicted as a “serial offender” for “enabling or encouraging or abetting homosexuality” because he’s showing gay porn in church… at lest twice now!

Thank you for this very informative video. I just have one suggestion: can you please provide quick links for viewers to take action on the issue? For folks outside of the US, Avaaz has a good petition: http://www.avaaz.org/en/uganda_rights/50.php

And as you note, the Congressional push is a great way for US citizens to take action. This, from Physicians for Human Rights, is one example of a group that is sending e-faxes and letters: http://actnow-phr.org/campaign/uganda_bill

Ideally, you could have a link in the video, but if not – maybe on the YouTube description or featured on your blog?

Obviously this is a law very restrictive of freedoms but the restriction on Supporting Same Sex marriage doesn’t lead to death. The clause clearly states “imprisonment for life”, which is certainly cruel but not death. And enabling others to engage is a seven year sentence, not a death sentence. The law is clear that only forced (non-consensual) same-sex relations are punishable by death. Countries such as Saudi Arabi, Lebanon, Syria, Iran, Egypt, etc. have equally bad laws so add them to the list of countries that should no longer get aid.

[Webmaster's note: Sadly, you're mistaken. All the sentences you list are for a single offense. However, if you have multiple convictions, you become a serial offender, and thus guilty of aggravated homosexuality (even if you haven't actually ever had gay sex), and thus subject to the death penalty.]
