Training Update: Week 1

This June I’ll be doing the AIDS/LifeCycle once again, a week-long, 545-mile bike trip from San Francisco to Los Angeles.  I’ve decided to keep myself honest with the cardio training by posting each week’s regimen.  Weeks will go from Monday to Sunday; I’ll get off the couch on Sunday mornings when I realize, Oh no, I better have something to post! So to start:

Thursday

  • Runyon Canyon hike with Lucas

Sunday

  • Nichols Canyon bike ride in the morning:  19 miles with a 4-mile hill.  Average speed: 11.5 mph. (At this distance, anything below 13mph is unacceptable.  Anything under 12 is just sad.
  • Runyon Canyon hike with Will and Lucas in the afternoon.

Weight: 210 pounds (goal is 190; I have no wish to climb hills pulling a 20-pound ass-trailer behind me)

Lotta work to do.  If you can contribute to the fundraising, I’d much appreciate it.  You’ll find the donation link here.

210Lbs? You’re almost 20Lbs heavier than me, and I assumed you’d be lighter! You’re certainly leaner. Still, I’m successfully heading in the right direction – I’ve lost 8Lbs so far this year, yay! My target is to lose around 40-50Lbs.

My cousin and I are intending to start cycling regularly in a couple of months, i.e. when it’s warm enough to cycle without feezing your nadgers off: this winter has been cold. Tom’s the UK Muay Thai champion (I forget the weight class, I think it’s 64kg/141Lb) so keeping up with him will be a challenge. If it goes well I’d like us to do a sponsored bike ride together next year.

Hope you beat 13mph on Nichols Canyon soon ;-)
