President Obama’s remarks today have drawn attention back to Uganda’s Kill-the-Gays bill. And the media still hasn’t gotten it right. Some conservatives offer the outright lie that it only intends to execute child molesters and people who deliberately spread HIV. The liberal media points out that the bill would also execute people who merely have gay sex more than once.
But the facts are much worse than that. I’ve written about this before, but it bears repeating. Here are two examples of people who could be put to death:
- Someone who has gay sex once and doesn’t turn his partner in to the authorities.
- A straight person who doesn’t turn in a gay friend after hearing about about a couple romantic evenings.
You don’t have be gay to be executed under this bill. Here’s how easily the government could put you to death:
- The death penalty applies to anyone convicted of “aggravated homosexuality.”
- Aggravated homosexuality includes all “serial offenders.”
- A serial offender is “a person who has previous convictions of the offence of homosexuality or related offences.”
- Related offences (Part III of the bill) include not ratting out your gay friends (if you are a person of religious, political, economic, or social [!] authority).

It’s a two-strikes-and-you’re-dead bill. And if you dig into the logic, merely keeping silent about someone who’s keeping silent is enough to count as a strike.

It’s really astounding reading over that text. It reminds me that hate is not a requirement to perform great evil. We all like to think of perpetrators of evil as cold hearted thugs – it makes the notion of it more manageable somehow. Yet this bill really shatters that perception. Here are smart, kind, people – voting to put to death those whose only crime is to love.

I think that’s almost as bad as the theory that suggests that homosexuality comes from DNA.
IMO, humans are born and grow up to have the prefrences they like out of experience. I don’t think anyone is ever born “gay” or “straight.
In a way, I think sexuality CAN be programmed. I think humans are inherently bi. But depending on the society you are born to live in, you are pressured into your sexuality to a certain degree. IE, in Judeo-Christian societies, people want you to get married and have sex and reproduce. So they tell you all these horror stories of what will happen to you if you decide to engage in gay sex. (IE, fire and brimstone…) But at the same time, some of us are born to be rebels, and we consciously REJECT this programming. So the straight programming has a reverse effect.
If you look at a lot of animals, IE dolphins and bonobos monkeys, one can observe that these animals are very sexual creatures, and they just have sex and they don’t give a f***. They’re not bound by man-made pressures to reproduce; they just know when it’s time, and they do it.
Maybe things like gay or straight exist in humanity since we became sentient thinking creatures? Perhaps if we were just unthinking animals, we’d be like the bonobos monkeys, screwing each other and not giving a rat’s ass. The straight pair, marriage and children paradigm stems from the Judeo-Christian point of view. The “gay” couple, I’m sorry to have to say, is a parody of that. In nature, just what animal goes around pairing itself and limiting themselves to just ONE partner? No! Animals do like on the discovery channel; they screw around and are “unfaithful” all the time. This, “I want to spend my life with you forever and ever, and only you” is a recent phenomenon. This concept of “love” is only recent. People used to be forcefully married for political and economical reasons, not “love.” Love, “marriage for love” and all this BS is all new. Gays weren’t worried about gay marriage until last century. It’s new.
As for the DNA thing, I think it’s the silliest idea ever. If it were true that being gay comes from DNA, there’d be no gays around; gays can’t reproduce, unless they’re BI, which, again, there it is again, there is a need to be straight at some point in the gay’s life. In-vitrio just didn’t exist back then.
And, I think another person on here has a point; if being gay came from DNA, then where would that leave other behavioral traits like promiscuity, pedophilia etc.? What about other sexual traits? Wouldn’t there have to be a trait for like, leather, furry, shoes, etc. as well?
In searching for a “cause” for gayness, aren’t people also essentually looking for a cure?
I think we need to drop this search for “what makes you gay.” You are who you are and that’s the end of it. Some people are more gay than others, others occasionally like to fool around. It’s sad we can’t be sexually free to do whatever we want. I think inventing labels like “gay” and “straight” only helps solidify us into this us-and-them paradigm. If there weren’t these labels, I think we’d find that people that call themselves “straight” today aren’t as “straight” as they lead on to believe; they’re just acting because no-one wants to be labeled a fag.

Hey Jordan. Geese stick to one couple for lifetime. And that’s only one example, as that behavior can be seen in other avian species. Also, the concept of “love” may have already been screwed with in every possible way, but the concepts of “affection”, “loyalty” and “emotional bonding” are in fact present in nature, so we could say love is natural. I mean, just look at female mammals nurturing children of another species: that’s love. Look at dogs that mourn the death of their human companion: that’s love. Look at all animals that can coexist amicably without going into parasitic relationships: that’s love.
Also: I agree with you in that we should stop looking for “the origin of homosexuality”, yes. I, however, don’t agree that we make a choice.
