When I saw this I recognized myself instantly.
And you all should send your sympathy to Will, because too often this is what life with me is like.

I saw that on xkcd too and was like, “Hey, that’s SO me!”
I lose so much sleep over arguments on the Internet. It’s like I have some kind of visceral reaction to bad logic and feel some uncontrollable instinct to try to point out fallacies. I’ve now learned to just not look at most comments so that I’m not tempted to answer! It took a long but I finally realized that it’s impossible to use logic to argue against someone who doesn’t think logically.
More importantly, you’ve started using XKCD as shorthand. I’m afraid there’s no turning back. Will may have to join Geekanon, the support group for spouses of geeks.
xkcd for the win!
And I currently currently have a support group going with a couple of friends on a message board to ignore an anti-equality religious bigot (who takes a great deal of offense at being told he’s a bigot) and fight the urge to angrily react at all hours of the night to his being wrong on the internet.
To Will (in case you read this blog):
Learn where the master switch on the fuseboard is.
My partner, Stu, has requested (pleaded, cajoled, whined about, demanded, attempted to entice me away from the computer with promises of carnal delights, etc) that I please turn the damn thing off in the evening, so I don’t get all worked up over some issue or another and not be able to sleep. I guess this is not an uncommon issue in many households. (And FYI Will, those promised delights are quite effective…:D)
Will, in case you are reading this, you must know that it’s the mark of a very PASSIONATE man that spends his time thusly educating the world on the importance of both your lives.
Let the man build up his head of steam, allow him to vent at the comp box, and you can be the comfort at the end of his time at the trenches. You’re both going to benefit from this because of the sort of people activists are in the first place.
As one of my heroes Lt. Dan Choi said, also passionately:
“ALL FOR LOVE!”
As for you Rob, you and Will are two of the most wonderful men I’ve had the pleasure to spend time with. You’ve treated me like a queen, been old school valiant in ways I don’t think a lot of men know how to be these days.
Impresses me no end.
Hug Lucas for me. It figures you’d have a hunky dog too.
