Brad Parr cannot understand why Republicans can get away with claiming that morons like Bush make great presidents because they appeal and can relate to ordinary Americans, but decry “empathy” towards such normal Americans from Supreme Court justices.
I genuinely adore Brad.
Awwww…..
That said, I do realize it’s not a completely fair comparison. After all, the Republican fetishization of “down to earth” Presidents is bad from a policy point of view–I don’t want a flunked out failed businessman whose sole appealing feature is that the plebs of rural Texas would like to have a beer with him becoming president. I want leaders that I’m in awe of.
Conversely, I want a Supreme Court justice who understands that the effect of his/her rulings do impact the day to day lives of people unlike themselves, not least in discrimination cases and in the pending healthcare battles.
But it is still funny to me that they decry Kagan’s elitist background while also not wanting her to have any empathy.
But then, these are the same people who make it sound like judging is just feeding results into a machine and getting a clear, black and white answer. If that were true, we’d just have a Supreme Calculator, and not 9 Justices.
