Discrimination Costs LGBT Federal Employees $100 Million a Year

That’s according to Fox News, though Fox had a different headline:

Extending Federal Benefits to Same-Sex Couples Will Cost $898M, CBO Says

And its lede sentence:

Extending federal benefits to same-sex couples will cost taxpayers $898 million over the next nine years, according to an analysis of "domestic partnership" legislation released by the Congressional Budget Office.

This story is about H.R. 2517, a House bill that would offer partners of LGBT employees the same benefits as heterosexual spouses, including:

• health insurance
• survivor annuities
• compensation for work-related injuries
• travel and relocation benefits.

Nothing in the story about how much it costs taxpayers to offer these benefits to opposite-sex couples.  Isn’t it great to see a “fair and balanced” perspective in action? 

Naturally, the rusty pipes in the conservative Internets are squeaking like crazy.  Comments from the Fox News site:

Regardless of how they try to package this, it will cost the straight taxpayers millions of dollars to fund their disgusting lifestyle. Contact your elected officials and tell them to vote against any legislation extending benefits based on sexual preference.

Next they will want federal funding for gay bath houses!

It’s never been about equal rights for gays, it’s always been about preferential treatment for gays.

I do not think tax payers should have to pay for groin preferences period.

It will cost a lot more than that.  And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, "If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them."  When a nation rewards behavior God hates, that nation is begging for God’s wrath…No the 900 million is chump change compared to the wrath of God for putting homosexuals on a pedestal instead of death row in prison.

Is it so hard to see four simple facts?

• Federal benefits for opposite-sex married couples cost far more than $100 million/year.
• Gays and lesbians pay taxes to make those benefits possible.
• Equal rights aren’t preferential treatment.
• Straight people are the ones getting preferential treatment right now.

But our opponents are downright Orwellian in their thinking:   Discrimination is equality (when discrimination is against gays).  Equality is special treatment (when gays are treated equally).  So let’s turn that backwards thinking around:  Every dollar in these estimates is a dollar stolen by discrimination from hard-working gays and lesbians, and the higher the total, the greater the theft.
