Barbara MacEwen, Religious Liberty, and Special Rights

Suppose an on-duty police officer sees a known homosexual getting stomped to death in an alley by two men shouting, “Die, faggot, die!”  He does nothing to stop it, and he lets the thugs escape, because he believes in Leviticus 20:13:

If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of [...]

NOM's Desperate and Dishonest Poll (Updated)

This has got to be NOM’s most blatant dishonesty yet.

They commissioned a survey to influence the New York State Senate’s vote over marriage equality.  This is their headline announcing the results:

New Poll: 57% of New Yorkers Reject Same-Sex Marriage, Just One in Four Want the Legislature to Decide the Issue

What makes this so egregious? NOM [...]

NOM Admits to Advocating Theocracy!

Well, they didn’t use exactly that language. Here’s what NOM president Bryan Brown wrote:

NOM pledged at least $1 million to help educate New Yorkers on how their representatives vote on this issue. With your help and God’s, we will stand by our word.

As Archbishop Timothy P. Dolan put it so eloquently this week, “God, [...]

Today's Contradiction

Our opponents have such trouble maintaining a consistent line of argument. Consider this NOM post titled Social Workers Favor Gay Couples over Married Couples?:

In a New York Times report that gay adoption is generally on the rise, this story sticks out:

“Matt and Ray Lees, a couple in Worthington, Ohio, said they were selected as parents for [...]

NOM Hides its Ugliness

Over at the Ruth Institute (NOM’s pet project for “making marriage cool again”), they’re making a big deal over a study showing that same-sex couples are less likely to stay together than opposite-sex couples, and that lesbian couples are less likely to stay together than gay male couples.  Morse writes:

Please note one other thing: gender [...]

So how do you REALLY feel about Mexicans?

Jeremy Hooper of GoodAsYou unearthed this gem from Jennifer Roback Morse, who heads up NOM’s youth outreach program, the Ruth Institute.

Apparently Dr. Morse appeared on Spanish language radio, where she was stunned — stunned! — that her host was familiar with political philosophy.

Why so stunned?  Because:

Here I am, you know, sort of typical, clueless Anglo [...]

NOM's Response to Obama's DOMA Decision

Good lord, I agree with NOM! It’s president, Brian Brown, offered this reaction to Obama’s decision on DOMA:

We have not yet begun to fight for marriage.

That’s right Brian. So far I’ve only seen NOM fight against the right of people to marry.

When you do begin to fight for marriage, give us a call.

If you don't like it, you gotta ban it?

NOM is trumpeting a new Maryland poll about same-sex marriage:

By a 54-37 margin, Maryland voters believe that marriage should only be between a man and a woman, according to a new poll released today by Lawrence Research.

And here’s the question they asked:

As far as you personally are concerned, should marriage be between a man and a [...]

Brian Brown Gets It Right (kind of)

I wish NOM president Brian Brown had just a smidge more self-awareness. Because then he’d realize that, in his most recent newsletter, he accidentally presents NOM as a hateful and bigoted organization.

Brian writes this of the Iowa hearings on marriage:

Even I, who’ve heard pretty much everything at this point, was a little shocked to hear [...]

Utter Deception or Utter Delusion

I can’t believe this.  Here’s what NOM wrote on their blog, complaining about Paul Krugman saying that toxic, eliminationist political rhetoric comes overwhelmingly from the right.

By “eliminationist rhetoric,” Paul Krugman means rhetoric which suggests that one’s opponents are not just wrong, they are illegitimate—that in a better world they would not exist.

Well, you and I [...]
