Today is Bayard Rustin's Birthday

Bayard Rustin taught Martin Luther King about non-violent activism, made the 1963 March on Washington happen, and was nearly written out of civil rights history because he was gay.

His biography is an essential read.

Yep and his death was pretty sad. My mother marched with him in Washington and told me about him when I was just a kid. He was the main lt who organized the Civil Rights march, but the other lt. close to King wanted him kept in the background because they thought that since he would not stay in the closet, it would make the movement a joke to have a homosexual as a poster child for equality. I am glad for his work and his life. A great man and citizen that too many have forgotten or didn’t know.
